Somewhat Of An Original Idea| CIRCA

... just when you think you've had somewhat of an original idea - oh yeah and of course Self Service circa 2007 was already all over it. Ok so there, monochrome, it's nothing new, but whatever, we're loving it right now.

Corine Day| SUMMER OF LOVE

"Photography is getting as close as you can to real life, showing us things we don't normally see. These are people's most intimate moments, and sometimes intimacy is sad." Corinne Day.

What's Not To Love| NOTHING... THAT'S RIGHT

Nothing... that's right - the new issue of Love is a total winner - from cover to cover - hot girls, great styling, perfect blasts from the past. It's a bunch of cool women, with stuff to say and yeah - each with a lovely rack - who knew an entire issue dedicated to boobs - and the power they bring - could be so much fun. You've gotta buy it, i'm telling you, the only decision then is - which cover? C'mon it's easy - Lauren H all the way

FRONT SLIT

Looks from Lanvin, Yves Saint Laurent, Haider Ackerman and Prabal Gurung; images from Vogue.com

One of the most unforgiving trends to crop up during the Spring 2011 collections: the slit. To compensate for the longer lengths of skirts and dresses, designers slashed the fabric up way past the knee--and an alarming number used their scissors on the fronts, rather than the sides, of skirts. You can thank Belgian designer and critic's darling Haider Ackermann; he introduced the look on the runway a year ago.

STRIPES DEMOCRAT

Looks from Jil Sander, Celine and Prada; photos from style.com

Big bold stripes were a welcome reprieve from all the white and beige dominating the Spring 2011 shows. Even Phoebe Philo, the woman who brought minimalism back with such a vengeance, punched up her neutral collection for Celine with big blue or green stripes on boxy shirts or on the side of slim white pants.

CRUSH ON PRINTS

After a pretty tame beginning to the spring collections in New York, things went a little bananas in Milan. Miuccia Prada thumbed her nose at good taste with cotton shirts and dresses covered with bananas--or monkeys. Flower child Stella McCartney showed a collection of slim pastel pants suits, followed by boxy shirts and fly-away dresses printed with bright oranges and lemons.

Where What When | I WANT LANVIN... NOT FLOWERS

I want Lanvin... not flowers - h&m collaborated with another house of haute couture.
“What does luxury mean today? Can luxury be exclusive and democratic at the same time? How can we translate the essence
of luxury to a wider audience? The world around us is changing rapidly and I find myself asking these questions more and more. Designer’s work is usually tailored to a very small group of people, but the collection for H&M was about trying to translate the dream
of luxury to the masses. It was almost like going back to school for me.”
Alber Elbaz, artistic director of Lanvin. Well done, Mr Elbaz!
