Beauty| MOUTHING OFF

Big hair and glam makeup aren’t the only way to channel the seventies. At Fendi, Karl Lagerfeld paid an entirely different homage to the era, giving his beauty crack team of makeup artist Peter Phillips and hairstylist Sam McKnight a one-word directive: graphic. The results: retina-searing neon pouts and deep, side-parted blunt cuts.
A host of strong lips shades applying them atop fresh, pretty skin. “Karl liked the variations of bright corals and vivid pinks, so we decided to mix them up for the show.” A flawless complexion was essential. Switching between Chanel’s Pro Lumiere Aqua Skin Perfecting Makeup and Vitalumiere Aqua Skin Perfecting Makeup to create base, Phillip dabbed a touch of Rouge Coco lipstick in Teheran (a rosy peach) and Sari Dore (a muted coral) into the foundation for a makeshift cream blush with an “inner-glow effect.”
To make sure Day-Glo lips, it popped on, adding more pigment to each color concoction. “To get a perfect, strong Technicolor lip, I would advise drawing out your lip with a lip liner in a strong pink, orange, or coral - basic shades you can find easily at Make Up For Ever,” Phillips says. “ Fill in totally and top off with Chanel’s Rouge Allure in Super, a shocking pink, or Genial, a Technicolor coral.”
